According to local belief, the colors on the lake Flores has the meaning of each and has a very powerful natural force. Blue lake or "Tiwu Nuwa Muri Koo Fai" is a gathering place for the souls of young people who have died.

Danau ini dikenal sebagai Danau Tiga Warna karena memiliki tiga warna berbeda, yaitu merah, biru, dan putih. Namun, warna selalu berubah seiring dengan berlalunya waktu. Danau ini terletak di ketinggian 1.631 meter di atas permukaan laut. Flores adalah kata gabungan dari "keli" yang berarti gunung dan kata "kualitas" yang berarti mendidih.
